With a heavy heart, Dr. Farbman announced his retirement in June of 2016. He opened Longmeadow Optical over 50 years ago, in 1973, and continues to be missed by staff and patients, alike.
Dr. Mark Lee Farbman was born in Baltimore, where he attended Baltimore City College. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Maryland. He finally graduated with honors from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.
During his professional career, Dr. Farbman served as member of the American Optometric Association, is a former president of the Frederick County Optometry Society and former optometry consultant at the Maryland School for the Deaf, and has served as the Western Maryland Liaison for the Maryland Optometric Association. President Bill Clinton recognized Dr. Farbman for his participation in the VisionUSA program, which provides free eye exams to those in need.
Post-retirement, Dr. Farbman continues to reside in Frederick, where he is active in the community. He enjoys bicycling, gardening, and playing with his grandchildren.
